Litigation
In an increasingly robust and cosmopolitan economy accompanied by the evolving nature and scope of commercial transactions, our approach to litigation is grounded on our clients’ trust in our ability to manage their complex commercial disputes, whether domestic or international and regardless of the subject matter. We understand the difficulties and risks of running an international business and we perceive litigation as playing an instrumental role in the prevention and resolution of those risks.
Yet we recognise that protracted litigation can sometimes result in Pyrrhic victories or jeopardise commercial relationships. We provide practical, bespoke solutions tailored to our clients’ business objectives by assessing the risk and cost of litigation against the relative benefits of mediation or settlement.
Litigation was the foundation of our law practice when it began and continues to be a major practice today despite our expansion and establishment in various other disciplines. Â Our litigation partners are dynamic and each equipped with at least 26 years of experience in wide-ranging areas of commercial matters. They offer a combination of legal insight, industry knowledge and practical business sense necessary to help our clients prevail.
We represent clients at any stage of a dispute in every industry sector including
- Contractual disputes
- Corporate governance disputes such as shareholder disputes
- Property disputes such as landlord-tenant disputes and valuation matters
- Real estate matters such as sale, purchase or financing of properties
- Tortious disputes such as those involving personal injuries and defamation
- Injunction proceedings
- Employment disputes
- Breach of trust
Arbitration
Over the last decade, the use of arbitration as a method of dispute resolution has become increasingly popular with businesses both in Singapore and abroad. Today, international arbitration is the primary formal mechanism used by companies in resolving disputes arising out of cross-border commercial transactions. Domestic arbitration is also preferred by many local businesses over litigation before the Courts, especially in sectors such as the building and construction industry.
Our arbitration practice comprises of lawyers who are experienced in both international and domestic arbitrations. Our lawyers are familiar with the leading arbitral regulatory regimes, and are well equipped to deal with complex and high-stakes arbitrations. We assist clients with a wide range of arbitration-related matters, including advising on and crafting dispute resolution clauses, conducting proceedings before arbitral tribunals, and enforcing and collecting arbitral awards.
